Manufacturing
Plant-floor inspections that don't slow the line.
Manufacturing inspection software for pre-shift checks, PUWER inspections, LOLER thorough examinations, LEV tests and PAT, on the plant floor. Hovermarks replaces clipboards with a 30-second scan at the machine, captures defects against the asset, and feeds them straight into the maintenance queue with the photo and the severity attached.
The challenges we hear most often
- Pre-shift checks completed but not captured anywhere
- Defects raised verbally and lost between shifts
- PAT testing evidence scattered across spreadsheets
- LOLER, LEV and pressure system examinations held by three contractors with no shared calendar
What a UK plant has to evidence
The cycles below are the regulations' own. Hovermarks changes where the record lives and whether it is tied to the machine that was checked, not what the duty requires.
Work equipment inspection
PUWER 1998, Regulations 5 and 6. At suitable intervals where deterioration could cause danger, and after anything that could affect safety.
Record of each inspection, kept until the next one.
Pre-shift checks on mobile plant
PUWER 1998 and HSE guidance. Each shift before use.
Check record per machine with defects reported.
Cranes, hoists and lifting accessories
LOLER 1998. 12 months for lifting equipment, 6 months for accessories and anything lifting people.
Report of thorough examination per item with the Schedule 1 particulars.
Forklift trucks
LOLER 1998 and PUWER 1998. Thorough examination every 12 months plus a daily pre-use check.
Both records, per truck.
Local exhaust ventilation
COSHH 2002, Regulation 9. Thorough examination and test at least every 14 months.
Report per LEV system, kept 5 years.
Pressure systems
PSSR 2000. Intervals set by the written scheme of examination.
Report of examination per system.
Portable appliances
Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, IET Code of Practice. Risk-based intervals by appliance class and environment.
Record per appliance with next-due date.
Guarding and interlocks
PUWER 1998, Regulation 11. Checked at each inspection and after any modification.
Inspection record naming the guard and its state.
Pallet racking
SEMA guidance. Weekly visual by trained staff, annual expert inspection.
Damage classification per bay (green, amber, red).
Fire alarm, emergency lighting and extinguishers
BS 5839-1, BS 5266-1, BS 5306-3. Weekly, monthly and annual cycles.
Entry per test in the fire log book.
What Hovermarks gives you

Use case
How a plant maintenance team would use it
Operators run a pre-shift scan-and-confirm at the asset; failures auto-generate a work order with photo, location, and severity, so planned overhauls can be scheduled with the evidence to back the spend. Repeat-failure flags surface assets where the same checklist step has failed in three consecutive inspections, escalated to a High-severity defect. The statutory examinations the contractors do land on the same asset record as the daily checks, so the machine's history reads in one place when an inspector or an insurer asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
- What does manufacturing inspection software do?
- It puts a QR tag on each machine, truck, lifting accessory and LEV system, opens the right checklist on scan, schedules the next check on the cycle the regulation sets, and turns a failed item into a defect with a photo, a severity and an owner. Pre-shift checks and statutory examinations end up on the same asset record.
- Does it cover LOLER and PUWER records?
- Yes. Thorough examinations produce reports carrying the Schedule 1 particulars, PUWER inspections produce a dated inspection record kept against the asset, and each item carries its next-due date so the retention rule works.
- How much does it cost?
- From £15 per user per month on Starter and £39 on Professional, with a 30-day free trial and no card required. No per-inspection or per-report fees.
